Leicester & District Mutual Football League

The Leicester and District Mutual Football League was founded in the year 1900 and was originally a "Sunday School" League. At one time the League had 164 teams in 16 divisions and was described by the Daily Mail as the "biggest Football League" in the Country. In 1998 the Football Association decreed that no child under the age of ten could play competitive football at 11-a-side on full sized pitches with full-sized goals and footballs.

This came at a time when the Mutual League was about to amalgamate with the Leicester City Football League to form one viable Saturday afternoon League adult football in the City area. The remaining teams in the League joined the Leicester City League. The Mutual League then re-formed as a "Mini-Soccer" League starting with under eights and under nines in the first season.

The new League extended to under tens the following season. Last season the League had 78 Member Clubs providing fixtures for some 3,600 youngsters in 338 teams for the 2010/11 season. 54 teams in the under sevens section, 85 teams under 8 section; 88 teams under 9 and 111 teams in the under ten section.
